Practice Guidelines for Members

Both the RMA and RMT certifications are entry-level certifications designed to offer an “earn while you learn” career path for immigrants or Canadian residents launching a second career.

The RMA certification is designed to assist those working directly for small businesses learn how to collaborate with professional accountants, and to assist their employer in complying with relevant legislation (eg. income tax, consumption taxes, payroll and employment standards.) under the guidance of a designated professional. An RMA member is not entitled to practice on his or her own.

The RMT certification is also designed to launch members into an accounting, tax or finance career. It is expected that an RMT member will work in either industry or public practice and report to a designated accountant.

RMT members are not entitled to practice on their own, without achieving additional, professional certifications in accounting, tax or finance.
